Language is so much more than just a string of words used to communicate. It is also culture, sociology and psychology. Words create feelings, reactions, both good and bad. The way sentences are worded matters more than the words itself. Linguistics is a passion, an interest, not just a means to an end.
My name is Mariken. I’m a native Dutch speaker, born and bread in Rotterdam, and “self-published” my first book at the age of eight. I have been writing ever since – stories, novels and blog posts – and I don’t think I could ever stop. My novel Tiger’s Eye, in English, is for sale here.
Now, as a grown-up, I also speak English and Swedish fluently. I studied Swedish at university and learned English not only through it being my best subject all through school, but also by working and living there.
In 2016, I decided to turn my passion for linguistics into my job, and am now a freelance translator, editor, proofreader and writer, who also has extensive SEO knowledge.
I’m always eager to continue learning, to add new experiences to my life, and to deliver work that is of high quality and feels real. I offer all kinds of services, from translating between Dutch, English and Swedish, to proofreading and editing in those same languages. Since I love writing, I’m also more than happy to help out if you are looking for a content writer.
